The apparition was an Jubokko and had tangled Watanuki in it's branches. Throwing himself into the fray, he managed to shoot enough arrows to cause the mononoke to back down, and with one last tug, pulled him free. Knowing he'd just left himself wide open, and not caring in the slightest, he threw Watanuki to the side just in time to get impaled by a remaining branch. He focused the last of his energy into one last arrow, fired, then as it finally fell over, so did he with one last glance to make sure Watanuki was alright.
